Umbrella insurance is used to protect you in case the amount of coverage needed is higher than the limits on your homeowner's insurance or auto insurance. Most people should have at least $1,000,000 in umbrella insurance but if your net worth is higher than $1,000,000, then it may make sense to have a higher amount of umbrella insurance.
